Supernatural Season 3

Posted on 14 Jun 2007 @ 10:29

Hi gang,

Got word yesterday, and although it is not what we were hoping for, you may see Ellen again. Just not sure when. Sigh. Sometimes i really hate this business. Here is the scoop....the CW is a very young network (ie Smallville) and want their cast to be young and hot....it's their demo. And although i am not repulsive or scaring small children away at the sight of me, let's face it...i ain't Krustin Kruk. So they have decided to bring in two new YOUNG female characters for the boys to play with. An adversary to them and a kick ass demon hunter. Think they want to create some sexual tension on the show. They tried it with Jo, but she ended up being more of a sister figure. That puts Ellen on the backburner. I think she will be off crossing the globe hunting the demons that got out of the gate. No word yet on when i would appear, but I am not scheduled for the first 3-4 episodes. That i know. Love the show and will miss them greatly, but seeing as i don't have a deal with them, i am going to continue to work on other stuff...and if i an workng when SN wants to use me, i may not be available. So we'll just hav to wait and see....but i will keep you updated. I am waiting to hear back on a 13 episode show shooting in Vancouver this summer. No details as i don't want to jinx it. You'll know when i do.
Thanks for all the support. It means a lot.
Sam
At least there is still hope! And fingers crossed for the new show!
By Kim @ 14 Jun 2007 10:52 am

Nooooooo, I'm really disappointed we wont see loads more of you. I love you as Ellen (and would love to see her and Dean get together and/or be a mother figure for the boys). I think you're absolutely gorgeous and far more interesting than "Krustin".

The new casting news saddens me because I think they have a great core cast as it is and bringing in new girls as series regulars may backfire in the same way bringing in Jo as a potential love-interest did. Poor Alona, I think she's one of the nicest, sweetest, cutest girls around, but the fans just didn't like Jo.

Anyway, in the meantime I hope the new show works out for you, you deserve to be busy.
By Janine @ 14 Jun 2007 11:11 am

Nooo! I was really hoping Ellen would make another appearance! Those of us who have read about the two new 'beautiful and sexy' additions are totally dreading it. About 90% of us are, I'd say! I hope Kripke & co know what they're doing... because taking away characters we like doesn't really make sense to me! :(

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and I hope the new show works out for you. :) And thanks so much for keeping this blog updated!
By Joya @ 14 Jun 2007 11:51 am

We'll be crossing our fingers for you and more Ellen! The show won't be the same without you. And good luck with your other projects! :)
By Laura @ 14 Jun 2007 12:11 pm

Well, I'm not giving up hope. You've been a powerful character on SPN and I can only hope that the powers that be will recognize how much the fans love your character and the great work you've done for them.

We'll miss you, and I'll keep a lookout for you in future SPN eps, as well as other projects. Thank you so much for the great work you do.
By Jen @ 14 Jun 2007 12:11 pm

While I trust the makers of the show to make what ever they do with season 3 as excellent as the last two seasons, it's a terrible shame that they are taking this line. New characters could be excellent for the show, and I trust they'll handle it well and will learn from the mistakes made with the Jo character, but it shouldn't be at the exlusion of characters that work. Characters that have become part of the show, and are liked and cared about by the regular viewers. The addition of Ellen and Bobby and Ash (and Jo) have been utterly fantastic. I think it's a horrible shame that they're willing to put you as an actress and your character on the back-burner because of social conventions as to what they think will sell, and the image they should be putting forward as a network. I really hope they see the error of their ways and snap you up for season 3, regaurdless of the new characters.

I can honestly say, I think you are far more beautiful than any bit of mid-20s totty they cast. And certainly the character is a stronger, more intersting woman to watch.

By Amy @ 14 Jun 2007 12:19 pm

Noo! I want to see more Ellen on the show. And I really don't like the idea of two new female hunters, just like most of the fans don't. I really hope we'll get to see you on the show again!
By Petra @ 14 Jun 2007 12:21 pm

I hate that they're bringing in these new girls. Just put Bobby and Ellen to use! Hopefully they bring you back for more, le sigh.
By lee @ 14 Jun 2007 12:30 pm

And there I was thinking that with the roadhouse gone, you'd be free to do more and be seen.

I was also thinking the show wanted to be taken a bit more seriously, so turning into a typical CW show with nothing but young bods (or is it 'bots?) seems totally the wrong way to go about it.

But they were able to fix mistakes during the last season, and hopefully they'll do that with you too.

Best wishes:)
By JD @ 14 Jun 2007 12:31 pm

I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed that they do bring you back and soon. I love the idea of the two brothers working with Ellen and Bobby. IMO it actually sets the show that much more apart from the other shows the CW has on its network.

I do wish you the very best if your path lies elsewhere from Supernatural, but do know you've got more than a few fans rooting for more Ellen.
By Stephanie @ 14 Jun 2007 12:35 pm

i've enjoyed watchin' every character that i've seen you play. so really, it's SN's loss. just sayin'. *grin* looking forward to seeing what you get to do next!
By kbk @ 14 Jun 2007 12:38 pm

This is devastating news. Most of the fans are already distraught over the casting news, but these gals at the expense of our "Ellen Time" is just not a good move by the network. I can't imagine Kripke is too happy having his hand forced in this.
By Bridget @ 14 Jun 2007 12:41 pm

Wow, as others have said, I am too a little shocked that Ellen is being put on the backburner. However, I am not giving up hope that we Supernatural fans will be able to see Ellen again in an episode further on down the road. I find Ellen to be an interesting character, who I think could really be a mother figure to the boys.

You did such an amazing job in season two, as did everyone else. Good luck with all your future projects and I hope we all see Ellen in future episodes of Supernatural!

Peace!!
By Wendy @ 14 Jun 2007 12:48 pm

The guys at the CW are very wrong, if they want SPN to end up turning into One tree hill (teen drama) they're going to make a fantastic show full of wonderful actors, directors and screenwriters, etc, etc..go to hell.

Your character was abso-fucking-lutely awesome, sexy and strong. If you don't come back we'll be really sorry, because you're the only woman we want in the show.

Thanks to you Samantha for doing such a great work and good luck!
By Pili & Marķa @ 14 Jun 2007 12:52 pm

Just letting you know, nobody on fandom likes this 2 NEW SERIES REGULARS ideia!

We'd rather have you! You're awsome! And I did like Jo! But these 2 new girls I will not like! I read the sides and hated them! They're like: "I'm tough, I drink, I kill and let's have sex Sam!" I mean ugh
So much for wanting the boys with someone mature, smart and supportive!
And if this is the networks doing... oh man ! I hate the business too! :(
By mia @ 14 Jun 2007 12:58 pm

I hope they bring Ellen back and soon! Maybe she can beat the stuffing out of the new girls. I want Bobby and Ellen to hook up!
By Mal @ 14 Jun 2007 01:03 pm

lol "Krustin Kruk" Did you write her name like that on purpose? She's very preety in a sweet kind of way! Actually that's the kind of girl I'd like Sam with! Not that new awful caracter, who based on the sides just wants to get in his pants! (well, at least if they have sex, she'll probably die lol - Jessica and Madison, anyone?)
Well, I just hope the show doesn't get ruined!
But I hope we get to see you again! We all love your caracter and you! =D

Best of luck
By Patricia @ 14 Jun 2007 01:08 pm

Oh nooooo. That's a real bummer! CW is so wrong! I loved you and Alona on the show and I want you guys back.
By Marion @ 14 Jun 2007 01:09 pm

Sometimes this business makes me extremely sad. Why are interesting and already established characters, not to mention well liked characters, replaced in the name of teen demographics. Does every 15 year old girl in america really want to put up with yet another exchangable new starlet instead of a show driven by characters and comlplex storyline?
And stop putting yourself down ... you are a beautiful women.
By Stef @ 14 Jun 2007 01:12 pm

I'm sorry to hear that....cause you see Ellen is the type of character they need. I hope they realize most fans are not going to like the Mary Sueing they seem to be looking for. We won't like having a female supergirl demon hunter. I watch the shoe because of the family element of the brothers and how Bobby, Ellen, and even Jo and Ash fit into that. If they back burn Ellen and even Jo in this new Demon hunt, it really cuts with the established base of family they ended the show with.........I wish the best of luck and hope to see you back, but understand if the job market prevents you from coming back......

By Kimber @ 14 Jun 2007 01:12 pm

The show needs Ellen. You're a phenomenal actress and I'm sad to see you go (hopefully you'll appear later!) Wish you the best of luck on your new show!

And don't put yourself down, Sam. You're a beautiful woman. :)
By Avy @ 14 Jun 2007 01:18 pm

Good luck with that new show, and please keep us updated on SPN! <3
I hope to see you soon on my fave show!
By Mike @ 14 Jun 2007 01:23 pm

Well, that really sucks.

Personally, I love the character of Ellen and thought that she was a great addition to an already fantastic show.

I'm all for adding new characters to the mix, but pushing aside or replacing the existing ones just because they aren't in their 20's is just plain wrong.

I hope to see you in Season 3 and good luck with the new show.
By Becky @ 14 Jun 2007 01:24 pm

"And although i am not repulsive or scaring small children away at the sight of me, let's face it...i ain't Krustin Kruk. "

Nah, you're better all-around ;). I wish we'd see more of Ellen in S3, I like her interactions with the boys. Nothing set in stone yet though, right? I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
By Elle @ 14 Jun 2007 01:25 pm

It shouldn't only be about age and looks. I love Ellen and Bobby, and think they're both essential to the show. I also think the addition of the two female hunters will only serve to anger fans rather than bring in new viewers. We wantstrong stories and good acting, not sexual tension. There's plenty of that on the other networks.

I hope we see you back on Supernatural soon.
By Dotti @ 14 Jun 2007 01:27 pm

Sorry to hear this, Sam. I was hoping you and Bobby would be getting lots more screen time. What's with these idiot suits at the networks, anyway? You're gorgeous! Sam and Dean need a mom figure, not two pieces of T&A to play with! These networks don't know their asses from their elbows, and it's a damn shame! I really hope they wake up and bring you back, because we love you and would much rather see you than these two pieces of fluff they're bringing in!
By Robin @ 14 Jun 2007 01:29 pm

I'm sorry the CW has decided to go this direction...I love that Ellen, Bobby, Ash and Jo were a surrogate family for Sam 'n' Dean, and replacing them with "hot, young" girls just isn't where I wanted to see the show going. I don't think the network's got a clue about what their demographic really is - a lot of the fandom seems to be older than the 18 - 24 or whatever range they're going for. I wish TPTB had the brains, or the balls, to resist the mythical avantages of going for the teen demographic. Those of us who are older than 25 really would appreciate it.

I do hope Ellen comes back soon - and best of luck on the proposed new show! I know you'll kick ass in it, whatever it is!
By Fritz @ 14 Jun 2007 01:33 pm

Samantha, we're doing more than just crossing our fingers. We're organizing a grassroots campaign to maintain the integrity and quality of the show as we know it. Mr. Kripke learned the hard way via the debacle that was "Jo" so I cannot imagine that Jo x2 is now his idea... seems more network motivated to hit that hormonal teen demographic so prevalent on the CW. If the finale proved anything, it was that you and Jim Beaver were excellent in these supporting roles. Personally I would like to see more about the development of characters we know and love, instead of dealing with these new "Samantha and Deana" versions/additions.
By Anna ("mousitsa") @ 14 Jun 2007 01:37 pm

I will be the first to say that when Ellen and Jo were introduced to the show I was somewhat wary and immediately didn't like Jo. It wasn't anything that the actress did. The character just... Lacked pop?! Is that acceptable? Anyway I DID like Ellen and the more I saw of her the more I liked her!

She (as well as Bobby) fills a nitch in the show that is and was needed. I'd also LOVE to know what the back-story is between her and John. As far as new characters go Ellen was one of my favorites!!! I hope like hell that you/Ellen make it back for season three!!! Good luck with your new projects! I would have loved to have met you when we were there for an all girls vacation earlier this year! (There were 6 of us from all over the States!) LOL There is always next year! My best wishes and good luck with your future project!!!
By Yasmine32068 @ 14 Jun 2007 01:41 pm

Hm, they hope for others not to see them as a teeny network but obviously, they are determined to dig their hole deeper and deeper. I love Ellen and I hate the idea of the two hot *snorts* chicks. Are big boobs required?
By KatiKat @ 14 Jun 2007 01:45 pm

Dude, that SUCKS. For what it's worth, the fans on TWoP adore you... we were on pins and needles about Ellen's fate for the finale, and you were definitely our favorite addition in season 2. Best of luck with everything else you're looking into, and I hope the CW gets their act together sooner rather than later so that we can see you again on Supernatural at some point. If not, I really enjoyed your performance as Ellen, so I'll definitely check out your work in the future. :)
By Ali @ 14 Jun 2007 01:46 pm

we love you and totally pissed you wont be as important to the show as we hoped but some of us have started to organize about why ....http://anakin415.livejournal.com/139104.html
By Rose @ 14 Jun 2007 01:49 pm

OMG are they freaking crazy or what. Your character was smart, saavy and sexy. Besides that there was enough chemistry and sexual spark between Dean and Ellen to light a frigging bonfire with. Dean may be young in age, but he is way older in the soul and experience than some twentysome chick. He nesds a woman of experience who can understand him, make him see the good man that he is.

My money is on Ellen for that. Older woman are valuable and far more sexy that way.

I think Ellen is wonderful and that you are an amazing and lovely lady.
By Remote Viewer @ 14 Jun 2007 01:53 pm

I think this whole thing absolutely stinks! Ellen was the best written, best acted guest role in SPN last season. I was so hoping to see Ellen become even more of a mother figure to the boys next year, heaven knows they need someone to talk to with what they are facing.
To have them get rid of Ellen in favour of two hot chicks and sexual tension will just turn SPN into soap opera. And no one wants to see that happen. There is massive discontent in the fandom at the moment as to the direction SPN is going in. People are very worried indeed.

Good luck with the future and I'll keep my fingers crossed that Ellen does come back.
By Megan. @ 14 Jun 2007 01:59 pm

I am really sad that the CW think we want to see sexy women hunters, we don't. We want our classy show not a soap opera! And putting Ellen on the back burner just sucks. Good luck in what you do and hope that the CW has a change of heart
By Linda @ 14 Jun 2007 02:02 pm

Why would ANYONE want to be Kristin Kreuk? I actually feel nauseated when I have to watch her "act" on Smallville. You have more beauty and talented than she --and those like her… *cough* Jessica Alba *cough* -- has in her little finger. And you wear less pink.

The CW and the Wicked Witch of the West running the joint will learn soon enough that this kinda crap won’t fly.

For what it's worth, I hope to see Ellen back on Supernatural. But, until then, good luck with the new show. :)
By ewanspotter @ 14 Jun 2007 02:02 pm

"And although i am not repulsive or scaring small children away at the sight of me, let's face it...i ain't Krustin Kruk"
haha First of all that was amazing. Second of all you are far better than Krustin Kruk.

I hope that the CW realizes that it's being dumb and that you rejoin the cast very soon. Until then good luck with all your endevors. And we'll be watching and missing Ellen. :(
By Erin @ 14 Jun 2007 02:29 pm

It seems the CW doesn't know a good thing when they have it. The dedicated SPN fans are in the process of talking about how much they like your character on the show and how much they are looking forward to seeing you in the next seas, and the network cuts back on your appearances! I'm seriously wondering if they're trying to cut their viewship instead of increasing it. We love Ellen, and we want her back... in lots of episodes.
By Wanda @ 14 Jun 2007 02:41 pm

Echoing everyone's sentiments here. As an "older woman," (you know, over 24), I cringe at the thought of our beloved show turning into another soap opera and would love to see you back as Ellen very soon. Joining in the good fight...
By Marsha @ 14 Jun 2007 02:42 pm

Very, very disappointing. Not surprising, sadly, but irking in the extreme.

It was manifestly evident that as good as Padalecki and Ackles are, having actors of your caliber (along with Morgan and Beaver) allowed them to really surpass themselves.

There's a raft of us that will follow you anywhere, so we look forward to hearing about your upcoming projects.

P.S., Not that I had any realistic hopes, but I was one of the ones thinking 'who needs 'the little sister?' I thought you and Ackles could blow the roof off even if they never went beyond giving each other appraising looks. You know, like adults. With issues and wisdom and maturity and complications and it would have been electric. Ah, well.

Cheers!
By Karasu @ 14 Jun 2007 02:54 pm

So begins the end of SN. It was a great two years anyway. Too bad that the CW can't see past their youth oriented mentality and realize that not everything revolves around sex, and t&a, but hey, nobody ever accused the CW of being particularly smart or business savvy

I will miss you and wish you a lot of luck, and hope to see you somtime. Meanwhile I also hope that J&J can get out of this network and start working for someone smarter.
By hermitme @ 14 Jun 2007 02:56 pm

Hey Samantha

I hope to see you very in Supernatural season 3 because it wouldn't be the same without you. Ellen is an awesome character and adds an interesting dynamic to the show.

All the best for your new show

Love

Mary

By Mary @ 14 Jun 2007 02:59 pm

As a fan of Supernatural I am extremely disappointed in the direction the CW seems to be going with the show, and as a fan of Ms. Ferris I am disgusted! On behalf of the "older" fans (who apparently don't fit the demographic, gag), it saddens me greatly that such a dynamic actress with talent and beauty to spare (and attitude in spades, rock on Samantha!) is being pushed aside to make room for such blatant stereotypes. This is not the show I became a fan of, and nothing would please me more than to see the pandering to the teens fall flat so that we might have more of Ellen and Bobby; and the concept we signed on for!

Get a brain, CW!
By Kristy @ 14 Jun 2007 03:02 pm

I thought Ellen was a wicked character as an almost mother figure to Dean and Sam as they are now parent less.
I am disappointed that She wont be returning as of yet and i think CW need to get there act together and get Ellen back!
By Jude @ 14 Jun 2007 03:24 pm

thanks for the update! i adore you as ellen and i really hope you'll be back. i watch the CW and i'd much rather see you hunting demons with sam and dean than some young girlie. sigh. but i'm hoping to see you on the 4400 this summer. best wishes!
By shannon @ 14 Jun 2007 03:25 pm

This is just wrong, I can't believe Ellen is being put on the backburner for these two new pups. My vote goes for you any day.
They are seriously annoying the fans with this.
Well good luck and I really hope we do see Ellen this season. Take care!
By Dee in Ireland @ 14 Jun 2007 03:31 pm

I am really not happy with news of these two new characters. I think they really ended season 2 on a solid note and set things up nicely to see more of Bobby and Ellen and I was looking forward to it. I wouldn't have minded seeing some other hunters along the way but not in a regular capacity.

This news is quite depressing to me.
By ronni @ 14 Jun 2007 03:44 pm

I really like Ellen. She is someone I would like to see back. I'd rather have her as a regular character than introducing two that we haven't even gotten the chance to see if it works out. Chemistry with actors as well as characters is something important. Yours works well with the boys and Jim. Can't wait for you to come back!
By Lila @ 14 Jun 2007 03:52 pm

It just goes to show how out of touch studio execs can be - you are one of the hottest women on the small screen ! Not just that - but the character you play on the show is a strong and interesting woman - which is pretty damn sexy.
Frankly I would rather see Ellen kicking ass with the boys now and then than a couple of cookie-cutter bimbos.
I for one am going to miss the Roadhouse - and I think the show will be poorer for the boys not having Ellens back-up and advice when they needed it.
Good luck!
By Gillian @ 14 Jun 2007 04:21 pm

You are definitely more talented and more beautiful than KK, I have to say... and I'm very disappointed personally that Ellen will not be in the first episodes of the season! :( It seemed that, the way they'd left it, that she would return early on, but it's like you said: they want "hot" young talent.

I hope you return to SPN. Ellen is a fantastic character!!!
