Supernatural Season 3

Posted on 14 Jun 2007 @ 10:29

Hi gang,

Got word yesterday, and although it is not what we were hoping for, you may see Ellen again. Just not sure when. Sigh. Sometimes i really hate this business. Here is the scoop....the CW is a very young network (ie Smallville) and want their cast to be young and hot....it's their demo. And although i am not repulsive or scaring small children away at the sight of me, let's face it...i ain't Krustin Kruk. So they have decided to bring in two new YOUNG female characters for the boys to play with. An adversary to them and a kick ass demon hunter. Think they want to create some sexual tension on the show. They tried it with Jo, but she ended up being more of a sister figure. That puts Ellen on the backburner. I think she will be off crossing the globe hunting the demons that got out of the gate. No word yet on when i would appear, but I am not scheduled for the first 3-4 episodes. That i know. Love the show and will miss them greatly, but seeing as i don't have a deal with them, i am going to continue to work on other stuff...and if i an workng when SN wants to use me, i may not be available. So we'll just hav to wait and see....but i will keep you updated. I am waiting to hear back on a 13 episode show shooting in Vancouver this summer. No details as i don't want to jinx it. You'll know when i do.
Thanks for all the support. It means a lot.
Sam
I will miss you on the show. I can't believe the network ppl fail to see the joy and beauty you bring to the show. I'm sure they will need you badly come mid-season. You have alot of chemistry with the boys.
By Selene @ 14 Jun 2007 05:02 pm

I'm sure you've figured it out by now (there are 51 comments as I write this!) but there are many, many fans invested in your character and I'm one of them. I hope to see you on the show asap!
By Kat @ 14 Jun 2007 05:13 pm

Hmm....ahh..not all the viewers are young things! Sounds like it's turning into a sci-fi channel original movie....hope not! Personally, I think Dean needs an older woman to keep him in line....and Sam, well, someone more of an intellectual match, these new characters don't sound like either of these...and quite frankly, adding two characters so "abruptly" and "suddenly" seems so....I dunno'....planned...set-up. Jarring really. Many young kids actually don't watch a lot of television these days (heck, when I was young, neither did I). So, I'm not sure who their target audience really is. If they want increased viewership, I don't think having young things prancing about is the way to get them. Viewers like full plots, character depth, good storylines. Ahh...but alas, it is not up to me.
By Elisa @ 14 Jun 2007 05:16 pm

Aww, this is sad news. The complete opposite of what I was hoping for, for s3!

And no, you're definitely not Kristen Kruek. You are a much better actress and more attractive!

Grr... I too hope Ellen isn't gone for good from Sam and Dean's lives.

In the mean time, we all wish you the best of luck!
By LJ @ 14 Jun 2007 05:45 pm

I just wanted to say that I've really enjoyed your portrayal of Ellen.

I wasn't too sure about how she was written at first though I always liked what you brought to the role, but as she was in All Hell Breaks Loose, I was very much looking forward to her being a recurring presense on the show next season. I've felt Supernatural had a very unique kind of feel to it which and you and Jim really absolutely fit the vibe.

I'm not at all happy about these changes that are being made to the show as a whole, it's like a whole different show. But I will look forward to seeing you in other projects in the future. I hope the new series works out, got my fingers crossed.
By Marie @ 14 Jun 2007 05:48 pm

Samantha, I'm really sorry it seems like we won't be seeing more of you in the show, I'm also sad for the direction the show is taking, I am convinced Supernatural will never be the same again. The good times are gone.

I wish the best of luck for you!
By Katia @ 14 Jun 2007 05:52 pm

Man, that sucks big time!
I'm really sorry, you're fantastic, hot and not old!
I lost every interest in the show, the two hot barbies stink so much.
Maybe it's for the best you're not going to work for those idiots anymore.
By Erin @ 14 Jun 2007 06:03 pm

That is so wrong. I thought they could of brought you back and be a mother figure type person and Bobb caould be back as a Father type person.

I am so sad that we will not see you. I thought that your charter was great and I am sad.

By Janice @ 14 Jun 2007 07:23 pm

I have to add my voice to the others here.

I actually *rarely* watch TV. Almost never really. Supernatural is the only show I watch religiously. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know Ellen and was really looking forward to some of her back story.

To be honest I don't watch TV because, at 40 , I no longer want to watch 20 something plastic surgery people. I want real people who can act and make me believe in the characters. My days of hanging posters on my wall are long over (last one I hung up with Leif Garret!) and I'm interesting in quality storylines and good acting.

Ellen is a great character. I really do hope they bring her back--she has more to teach us (and our boys). I also thought she and Dean might have a thing *wink* I didn't really catch the mothering vibe. I would have LOVED that.

Best of luck to you. Hope you'll come back.
By Josiegirl @ 14 Jun 2007 07:25 pm

This is possibly the most heinous decision the CW has ever made.

You've made such a fantastic character out of Ellen, to have that shoved aside for a couple twinkies is ludicrous and revolting. I mean, no offense to whoever ends up playing the new characters, but a character concept designed with 'love interest' and 'hot young thing' first and foremost is insulting to viewers and actors alike on any show that isn't half soap opera. Anyone coming into those roles is going to have a hard row to hoe with established fans.

Hopefully the powers that be will wise up and bring you back later on in the season, because as far as I'm concerned, your character is now as much a part of the show as Jim Beaver's character. The scenes of the four of you together were fantastic and seemed to be the beginnings of a real team/family I was looking forward to watching. That the CW can't see the broader potential in that dynamic is very, very disappointing.

Anyways, life goes on. I hope your other project turns out alright for you, but... dammit! This is frustrating!
By annoyed, but still shy @ 14 Jun 2007 07:29 pm

That's an absurd!!!!
I hope you be back to the show! I just love your character, you rock!!!

my fingers are crossed!!

xoxo
By Becca @ 14 Jun 2007 07:48 pm

That's just...incredibly lame.

Add me to the mile-long list of people who think you're beautiful and who want to see Ellen be developed and embroiled in the Supernatural storyline before we have to get our allotted CW breasts du jour.

Lame, lame, lame.

Whatever happens, I wish you lots of luck and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ellen's kickass return.
By laivine @ 14 Jun 2007 08:08 pm

The network honestly doesn't realize that they're basically ruining a good show with a stupid, stupid idea. We watch the show because of the good acting, not for random just over 18 Tn'A. I hope they get some sense kicked into them. I'd be a shame to watch Supernatural suffer the same fate as somany other shows that start out good and end badly because the network refuses to listen to what the fans want and we don't want random young 'hot chicks', we want a strong cast with good acting and for god's sake we want Ellen and Bobby to be regulars!
By Mads @ 14 Jun 2007 08:10 pm

That's a terrible shame. I love that they have your character on there. Well, if the CW does perpetuate this blatant disregard for great actresses, I fear they be stomped out like the flaming bag of dog-doo they are going to become. Good luck with your new show, keep us posted and we'll be sure to tune in!! Lots of love!!
By Amanda @ 14 Jun 2007 08:22 pm

It's official. I hate The CW.

Good luck though, Samantha! And I look forward to seeing you on Supernatural, even if it's in just one or two episodes.
By Laura Larrondo @ 14 Jun 2007 08:24 pm

Just wanted to add my best wishes for any future projects along with my sincere hope the powers to be at the CW will realise what a wonderful role model a strong female character such as Ellen can be especially in helping empower women without feeling the need to be displayed as sex objects.

I love Supernatural and have introduced the show to many friends and work colleagues of all ages and genders. Interestingly enough not one person has ever commented to me that they thought the show needed to be "sexed up" with the addition of some hot young females. Personally I don't mind additonal cast members, however I will be bitterly disappointed if it is at the expense of some much loved characters.

Good luck with the other show but fingers crossed we will still see much more of you as Ellen.
By Anita @ 14 Jun 2007 08:25 pm

This is very disappointing, and I am sorry this has happened! I just hope you know that you have a lot of support, and a lot of people rooting for the return of Ellen.

You created an excellent character, making her so interesting and complex. Yet likable. Thank you for time on Supernatural, and adding some much in your little screen time.

Here's hoping for a successful future for you, and your return to SPN.

Cheers!
By Leah @ 14 Jun 2007 08:37 pm

This is a shame. Supernatural is the only show I watch. I love the brothers, the family business, and the fighting evil. I started watching One Tree Hill and Smallville because the plots were interesting. Both rapidly became teen shows and I stopped watching. I don't want to stop watching Supernatural. As a 40-year-old woman, I loved your power, your beauty, and your ability to hold your own with those young guys. Best luck to you!
By Elhart @ 14 Jun 2007 08:43 pm

This is will be disappointing that samantha Ferris won't be in The 4400 this summer. But least she continue be Ellen in Supernatural tv show. I cross finger that Samantha Ferris will back the 4400 tv show next year... (Who know....)

Good luck with the other show! You are amazing actress....
By Elisa @ 14 Jun 2007 08:47 pm

I'm in the target demographic and I think it's insane.

Well, know that your character is beloved and that when anyone ever says they haven't tried the show because Supernatural doesn't have enough women *sigh*, the only reasonable response is: "We have Ellen. And Ellen is kickass enough for the whole damn gender."

So, I hope the CW get their heads outta their asses sooner rather than later. and good luck with everything.
By Alisa @ 14 Jun 2007 08:54 pm

Aw, man. First the 4400, now this.
I think that older hot mamas are soon to be extinct on the CW. They are doing this to Smallville too. Dumping Annette O'Toole so they can add a new hot young blond thing. I am in their target demographic and I hate most of the younger characters on the CW shows. It is the older characters who have always interested me. I loved Ellen and I was hoping she would be back to kick some butt next season. I was rooting for an Ellen and Dean pairing. Hopefully, they will realize their error and have you on the show more often. Good luck on getting a new job.
By Jennifer @ 14 Jun 2007 09:12 pm

Ellen is one of my favorite characters and you have done a really wonderful job with her, Samantha. And those who say you're not hot enough obviously do not have eyes at all. You can out-act most of the younger chicks out there any day.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
By Anna @ 14 Jun 2007 09:24 pm

Please say it isn't so! I absolutely enjoy Ellen's character and this news indeed saddens me. I also liked Jo and I think it would be wonderful if they did progress that particular storyline as a sister relationship to the boys, kind of like you are a surrogate mum to the boys. From one Canadian to another, WE KICK ASS and hopefully we (the fans can get the Yanks to see that too.) Stay Strong and we'll stand by you and hopefully you will get more airtime in season 3!
By Ymina @ 14 Jun 2007 10:58 pm

Well you will be sorely missed by many a Supernatural fan, this is really sad news but I wish you all the best for the future as I'm sure we all do! I always felt like there was so much left for Ellen to do, hopefully we will see you again though! These two new characters will be the end of many loyal fans and the end of the show I know and love it seems! Take care of yourself!
By Rache @ 15 Jun 2007 01:05 am

OMG, that's a pity :( I loved Ellen so much, and I'll hold my fingers crossed for her to appear in S3.
By moody flooder @ 15 Jun 2007 01:12 am

Aw damn. That's really disappointing news. I really warmed up to Ellen, so I'm sorry to see the character not come back for the beginning of the season. And pssh to sexual tension with new, younger, female characters. You were smoking hot.
Good luck with your next projects. I look forward to them. :)
By Joanna @ 15 Jun 2007 02:14 am

Samantha, I'd take you over Kristin Kreuk any day! I hope Supernatural's decision to add the new characters bomb, so they can get your character back.
By Kimmy @ 15 Jun 2007 02:20 am

No, no, no! They can't just take some two new 'hot and young' girls in the show, no! The boys should hunt together, without any girls hanging with there. And Ellen was like a new mother to these boys. :s What a pity. :/ But good luck with your next projects!
By Finland @ 15 Jun 2007 03:42 am

OMG thats such a Shame, Ellen really progressed through seaon to and I love the charactor. Really NOT sure about the two new girls. Don't think its right.
Fingers crossed we will see more of you in future Episodes of the show.

Best of uck.

By Chelle @ 15 Jun 2007 04:48 am

Just wanted I say I truly hope we do get to see you again on Supernatural, I truly like Ellen and you have great chemistry with both of the guys. Either way--you're very talented and I wish you luck! As someone else said, you deserve to be very busy.
By Lauran @ 15 Jun 2007 05:20 am

They need to keep you!!! The character of Ellen was great and brought a kind of balance to the show. Things won't be the same without you!!!!!
By Jen @ 15 Jun 2007 06:06 am

Samantha,

I wanted to tell you that I absolutely loved your portrayal of Ellen. It sucks what CW is doing with your character, and I do wish we see more of you! I love the honesty of your post, and I appreciate the Ellen you brought to us last season. Here's to hoping we see more of you in season three! But if that doesn't happen, then good luck with your future endeavors! :)
By Flora @ 15 Jun 2007 06:09 am

Awwwww, I hope you do get to come back as Ellen. She and Bobby are my favourite guest stars on Supernatural. What I don't get is, everyone on the other shows on the CW have parents, they're not young... so isn't the character of Ellen sort of like a mother figure to the boys.... do you see where I'm going? Anyways, I really hope we get to see you as Ellen again.
By Jkelly @ 15 Jun 2007 06:14 am

Samantha you were great as Ellen, and you will be missed like crazy. I do hope we see you in season 3. But I have to admit I am excited about the new season, but you will be missed there that for sure. All the best to you and good luck!
By Sherry @ 15 Jun 2007 06:26 am

Sorry to hear we won't see Ellen right off. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get to see a lot of her later on.

Hope to hear good news about that new show!
By Kat @ 15 Jun 2007 07:32 am

You are a beautiful, strong woman and you brought so much to the character of Ellen. Honestly, she's the only female character that worked in the show, and the only female character that fans warmed up to. I did like Jo, and I love Alona, but the way she was written just didn't work.

The most important part about Ellen, for me, is the emotional investment she has with the boys; she is not some random hunter, there's history between them. And you kicked ass!

I guess what I want to say is I love Ellen, and I hope they come to their senses and appreciate what they have. The CW is misguided because Supernatural has no target demographic. It can be appreciated without having to rely on a young, sexual presence. I hope everything works out for you, and I look forward to seeing you on the screen ( in Supernatural or other projects)!
By Paula @ 15 Jun 2007 07:33 am

Well, I personally think it's a bit of a disservice to fans to just let Ellen's character drop. I want to see what happens to her and to Jo - I hate it when characters just fade away. Plus, I think Ellen rocks. I don't mind the addition of new characters as long as they are well thought out and not stereotypes,, but I don't want it to be at the expsnse of the characters we've come to know and like over the past two seasons. IF the spelling is bad in here, please forgive. I can't see what I'm writing.
By Tiny Red Car @ 15 Jun 2007 08:37 am

Really sorry to hear this! I really like Ellen, she's such a strong interesting character and I had hoped we would find out more about her backstory. After the excellent role both Ellen and Bobby played in the Season finale I was hoping that we would see more of you next season not less! :-( You all seemed like family and Dean and Sam need that support IMHO!

What are the network thinking?! I'm from the UK and I think all this 'network demographic' stuff is bonkers. A good show is a good show and Supernatural is already brilliant with a wide ranging audience of all ages! There's an old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I wish you all the best with other projects and hope that we do see you soon in Season 3.
By Jules @ 15 Jun 2007 09:02 am

Gah! It's things like this that make me riled at the people over there at the CW. You are every bit as pretty as Kreuk and definately a better actress, so I don't get what their problem is. Ellen is my favorite female TV character, so I am extremely angry that they want a couple of "hot chicks" on the show instead.
O well, here's hoping that things turn out for the best (which would be the CW realizing they are crazy and getting Ellen back on the show)!!
By Fran @ 15 Jun 2007 09:02 am

I find it so frustrating how narrow minded the network execs can be, It is too bad that they seem to think that is all that would keep us interested. I was really looking forward to your return and thought they had some pretty cool options for your character in the coming season of supernatural. Hopefully the networks will wake up (not holding my breath here). If the fans had any say, we'd have you back in a minute! Good luck on your possible upcoming project.
By jenny @ 15 Jun 2007 09:29 am

What can I say other then that sucks. I always felt that the character of Ellen was a part they needed to have in there because Ellen became some what of a person the boys turned to when they needed help. But it is cool I guess. And Alona Tal isn't going to be on there either. The television and moive industory is going down the drain and this is coming from a fifteen year old okay. Now since they want younger people their is no place for the older people I mean I love to watch the older movie ones with Elvis Presley, Clint Eastwood, Samuel L Jackson. Your character is a good part of the show and you are a Phenomenal actress. Keep up the good work and the 4400 lost a good NTAC agent
By Samantha. @ 15 Jun 2007 09:40 am

Just wanted to say, I do hope to see Ellen on Supernatural again -- as well as Alona Tal as Jo. I'm hoping it all works out because she's such a great character and the boys need an older woman in their life that isn't going to take crap from them. Damn it. I mean Dean respects her and is scared of her, heh.

Anyway, hope to see more Ellen and whatever else you turn up in Samantha.
By Rachel Elisabeth @ 15 Jun 2007 10:13 am

Okay, that just sucks. I find Ellen a great character, and I really hope to see more of her, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. Stupid CW. *sulks* If I'd wanted romantic tension, I'd be watching soap opera's.

Anyway, good luck with everything you're planning on doing. :3
By Silvia @ 15 Jun 2007 10:18 am

Why can't Ellen have sexual tension with Dean? I'd watch that.

But seriously, that sucks. You may not be as young as the boys, but hell if you ain't good looking!

Best of luck with the new show!
By Mollie @ 15 Jun 2007 10:36 am

I can't beleive this! What is wrong with the CW executives? Why must they step in and dumbify any show that doesn't fit their shallow and superficial standards . As for considerring themselves a young network, these network executives insulti the intelligence. of the young people watching by their ideas of what they want to see. Its also very discriminating ,insulting and foolish for these executives to ignore the large number of older viewers that enjoy shows such as supernatural.. At the limp sam forum http://www.limp-sam.com/ more than half the people talking on the forum about supernatural are in their 30w 40s and 50s.
I aoologize for the tone of this post but I am royally pissed off . Supernatural is a well writtien and acted show . It possesses both a heart and a brain . The original concept of it being about two brothers should remian intact and it should include re-occuring characters of all ages . Where did the insane concept begin that young people only like to see other young people on their televsion shows. For gods sake stop insulting our youth and realize they are more than their looks and possessions and they're a lot more intelligent then the executives give them credit . It's not the youth alone watching the CW and Supernatural there's also a huge group of viewers out there of all different ages watching too!
Hope to see you back on Supernatural soon Samantha!
By Cheryl @ 15 Jun 2007 10:43 am

That is so incredibly galling of the CW - Ellen as a character is so interesting and your portrayal adds so much nuance to the show that teenybopper actresses will never be able to, no matter how talented they may be. Your presence in the Season 2 finale (and particularly Ellen's steely response to Jake's threats) was one of the highlights for me.

Here's wishing you great success and fulfillment in whatever you do next. And hoping that your path and that of Supernatural will cross again, sooner rather than later.
By Matt the Bruins fan @ 15 Jun 2007 10:50 am

I am so disappointed to hear this. I loved Ellen, she was a forcefull presence who treated the brothers fairly and with respect.I
t stinks that the CW cannot see the value in older characters.- I believe some letter writing is necessary here.
By donilou2 @ 15 Jun 2007 10:55 am

No ! I loved your character in supernatural ! I don't want them to introduce those two new girls I want Ellen ! *crosses fingers*
Hope the CW realizes that they are making a big mistake.
By laura @ 15 Jun 2007 11:15 am

I am sorry to hear this - and while I was not a fan of the Roadhouse gang, I did like Ellen a lot, and hope to see her back. Good luck to you, and we *will* see you in Season 3!!
By feeniks© @ 15 Jun 2007 11:39 am

Samantha – I may be being cynical here, but I can’t really see some 20-something actresses bringing half as much to their roles as you brought to Ellen. This is really disappointing news, as I wanted to see Ellen’s relationship develop with the boys as well as learn more about her as an individual.

I am trying to have faith in the writers and the casting people right now, but it isn’t really working. I just love you and the character so much it is difficult to see how anything else can be even a fraction as good.

I have enjoyed you in all the roles I have seen you in and am looking forward to seeing more. Having said that, I hope Ellen comes back soon and that the timing works out for you. All the best!
