Supernatural Season 3

Posted on 14 Jun 2007 @ 10:29

Hi gang,

Got word yesterday, and although it is not what we were hoping for, you may see Ellen again. Just not sure when. Sigh. Sometimes i really hate this business. Here is the scoop....the CW is a very young network (ie Smallville) and want their cast to be young and hot....it's their demo. And although i am not repulsive or scaring small children away at the sight of me, let's face it...i ain't Krustin Kruk. So they have decided to bring in two new YOUNG female characters for the boys to play with. An adversary to them and a kick ass demon hunter. Think they want to create some sexual tension on the show. They tried it with Jo, but she ended up being more of a sister figure. That puts Ellen on the backburner. I think she will be off crossing the globe hunting the demons that got out of the gate. No word yet on when i would appear, but I am not scheduled for the first 3-4 episodes. That i know. Love the show and will miss them greatly, but seeing as i don't have a deal with them, i am going to continue to work on other stuff...and if i an workng when SN wants to use me, i may not be available. So we'll just hav to wait and see....but i will keep you updated. I am waiting to hear back on a 13 episode show shooting in Vancouver this summer. No details as i don't want to jinx it. You'll know when i do.
Thanks for all the support. It means a lot.
Sam
I was very dissapointed to hear this and wanted you to know that I too am crossing my fingers that something will work out in the future in regards to Supernatural. But if not, you have a new fan. I will be watching for you from now on in your pursuit of other projects.
By Em @ 15 Jun 2007 12:08 pm

Well...that just sucks!!! I have come to enjoy "Ellen's" character tremendously and had hoped to see more of her in season three.

I know the boys need a bit of assistance with the huge amount of screentime thrust upon them in each show. Sad to discover their chosen replacement is YOUNG T&A rather than established characters that are much loved by the fanbase. Apparently they are working to bring more male viewers to the fold. I have to wonder at what cost to their current faithful viewers though.

It is my opinion the CW execs continue to demonstrate their complete lack of understanding to the SN phenom. Since it isn't reality tv nor is it focused on teenagers they feel the need to "fix" it. My hope is another network snaps up SN and runs with the show before TPB kill it.

Till that happens, I wish you much success with the possible new show. *fingers crossed* I will also be looking forward to seeing "Ellen" when she turns up.

I just cannot express how sorry I am to hear this. Ellen is a wonderful part of Supernatural and I really am going to miss your presense on the show immensely. Here's hoping they come to their senses and realize what they have. Hope to see you in Supernatural in the future but will still follow wherever you go.
By Becky @ 15 Jun 2007 12:41 pm

It's really a shame that the CW doesn't yet realize that a huge chunk of their Supernatural viewers are older women who really, really adore Ellen. But as per usual - older women are not in ANYONE's periphery. It's all about the young! and cute! and young! Boo on CW, yet again.
By lori @ 15 Jun 2007 12:48 pm

Dear Ms. Ferris,

You are way more talented than KK will ever be (and hotter, too!). You made Ellen a great character with what little screen time she had, and I was looking for to see her next season. I'm deeply disappointed with the CW (though I should have known better by now).

Yours,
Lucy
By Lucy @ 15 Jun 2007 12:50 pm

The casting news for Supernatural worries me; while the new chicks could work out, I'm afraid they'll cheapen the show. I would much rather see you on there a lot more! I think you definitely added something to the show and the boys could really use someone like Ellen in their lives.

I'll miss you on the 4400 as well and hope to see you in something soon.
By IMTheresa @ 15 Jun 2007 01:29 pm

This is very disappointing news. I love the show and hope that Ellen will be reappearing soon. The boys do need a mother figure, and the season finale seemed to be setting up Ellen and Bobby for parental roles. Sigh.

Let's just be hopeful. Maybe Ellen witll get her own show. For the record, you're more gorgeous than a good deal of the women on the CW combined.
By Leslie @ 15 Jun 2007 01:45 pm

Aww...I really wish we could've seen more from Ellen. She brought out the scared little boy in Dean *laughs* but not only that, she's a fantastic hunter and really help the boys out a lot! I really hope you return!!
By Jill @ 15 Jun 2007 01:50 pm

Hope to see you as 'Ellen' back on Supernatural really soon!
Your character fits so well with the show in a way I'm very much afraid the two proposed cliche girls WON'T. This sort of generalising about age and sex appeal all makes me fear for the integrity of my fave show.
But best of luck to you with all your projects. You rock!
By Inferi-tremen @ 15 Jun 2007 02:03 pm

Hi Samantha,
I too, think this is a travesty because not only do I think that Ellen is beautiful, but she is also smart , witty and a damn good hunter as well. Why would they need brainless bimbo's when they already have a winning formula? Please let us all know on your career advancements, as we would love to see you on either the TV or the big screen. I hope at some point in this whole mess, that Kripke realizes what an asset he is losing in you. At a time when the boy's could really use a "Mother figure" it would be great to see them turn to Ellen.
Thanks for all your hard work on the show and good luck in the future. I will keep you in my prayers.
By Susan @ 15 Jun 2007 04:40 pm

I have been having a hard time deciding whether to watch the show anymore because of the way they treat women characters.

But I really liked Ellen (and thought she'd be hot with Dean!) Ellen was great because she was caring and also strong, and not evil or dead.

I would love to see new female charcters too, but not at the expense of the characters we already love.

It's fine to target an audience, but if a show decides to dump the audience it's got, it may find itself with no audience at all.
By Camille @ 15 Jun 2007 04:42 pm

Wow, that is completely disappointing news. You are one of my favorite guest stars on Supernatural (I loved you on The 4400 and Battlestar Galactica too) and I would much prefer they flesh out your character.

Besides, I could totally see some Dean/Ellen action in the future! ;-)
By Jin @ 15 Jun 2007 09:43 pm

AAARRRRRGGHHH!! Why, Supernatural, why?!?! Ellen was so freaking awesome, I loved how you played her, Samantha! I can't believe they are doing this. The CW is going to ruin this show. When will they realize that when it ain't broke, don't fix it! I am going to miss Ellen so much. :( :(
By Margen @ 15 Jun 2007 09:44 pm

I'm up in the air on the news about the girls. I mean, I hope the guys got the message I've seen most places: "We like mature women like Carmen, we don't like women who are written and make-up'ped like sixteen year olds so no matter how gorgeous Alona Tal is Dean hitting on Jo is CREEPY." (At least they got her costuming right in "Born Under A Bad Sign.")

I'm -not- up in the air about wanting Ellen back. Ellen was an excellent addition that fit well with the tone of the show and you played her deftly and with real resonance. Ellen is a character I want to know more about, and it'd be a shame if they lose your talent and thereby Ellen...but I don't blame you for moving on to other things.
By Callie @ 15 Jun 2007 11:38 pm

Sorry to hear that. Ellen is a great character that I'd like to see more of. I don't know why they are doing this since other CW shows have adults that are a part of the cast. You're too good for them. :)
By Nadia @ 16 Jun 2007 12:26 am

Unacceptable. I was fully expecting Season 3 to have at least 25% more Ellen (and Bobby). I absolutely love her, she's a wonderful character. Hear that, Kripke? More Ellen. We have spoken.
By Katie @ 16 Jun 2007 01:04 am

Samantha,

Terrible news, but your fans are devoted and will follow you anywhere. I hope you return to Supernatural and soon; the show just won't be the same without Ellen. Even with her comparatively limited screen time, you did a tremendous job creating a character that viewers could relate to and care for. Your fans are up in arms, to say the very least.

Whatever happens, I hope you find a project that is truly deserving of you. If the CW can't see how wonderful you are, well. It's their loss.

All the best,
By AWoman @ 16 Jun 2007 01:10 am

Oh that sucks! I think your character of Ellen is great. The CW wants to appeal to the younger crowd, huh? Well, I am 40 and I love Supernatural and so do most of my "old" friends.
By Lisa @ 16 Jun 2007 06:23 am

Oh my... Sam, I am so upset right now !!
As if it wasn't enough that they are planning to bring 2 new serie "REGULARS" meant to be hot and sexy... now you tell us that they are writing you off the show??!!! SHOCK

Sometimes I swear, I don't understand the networks. I'm saying that because I can't honestly believe that Kripke, Gamble and Shiban would do something like this, not after last season's finale.
I would be really upset and disappointed not to see more of Ellen in the show. But if it means you are able to do something else and get another show, then it will just be their (and our) lost. I hope this works out just fine for you because you really deserve it.

Be aware that we (true&loyal fans) started a campaign ("Don't mess with our Supernatural" on various threads at the TV.com Supernatural forum), as soon as we heard about the new REGULARS, to try to have some answers about what it really means and that depending on how they bring the characters in, we may not be thrilled at all. Knowing you are "too old" (I still can't believe they meant that !! ) for the show will just be adding fuel to the fire !!

Thank you Sam for sharing this with us. I hope everything goes best for u and I hope for us that we'll have the pleasure to see more of Ellen next season.
Cheers from France.

I hate the CW since the beginning of the week and all the YOUNG females hunters stuff.
We love you and everybody hope you will come back!
Miss you already.
We are all with you.
By Vince @ 16 Jun 2007 07:43 am

Damn! And I was so hoping for some future Dean/Ellen action tsktsk And how could the writers have brought you back for the finale (with such a lame excuse as pretzels!) only to be ditched by the Third Season??? It's abhorrent!
By Contessa @ 16 Jun 2007 01:41 pm

Hey I think Ellen is awesome and I really don't see why they're doing this, I LOVE Supernatural, but I mean how the heck can they be doing this to Ellen? =( I hope they bring Ellen back more and change their minds.. Ugh, the network.. Either way, I think you're an awesome character, and way more pretty than any silly actor that could ever dream to take your place. Good luck on the new gig! =)
By Crystal @ 16 Jun 2007 09:14 pm

Samantha, I am really sad that your future with the show is unknown. I love the concept of the show... I loved the road house with Ash and Jo and yourself. I think the writers and Mr. Kripke are very talented and it's probably network pressure that made the decision to lose our beloved regulars and bring in two new young females. Can you imagine if Anthony Stewart Head was removed from BTVS because he wasn't hot twenty-something? I'm in my early forties and my friends are 36 to 55 who watch SPN. If you go to Livejournal and so on you will see that there are lots of older people watching the show who have disposable cash! We should count too, people who love great writing superb production and wonderful casting. I'll watch for you and your next project, but I hope to see you on SPN! Take care you are very talented and beautiful! (ps I'd love to see you and Dean too)
By Joanne @ 16 Jun 2007 10:28 pm

Aw.. what??? This is an outrage! Screw young and hot... it's so over-rated. You are fabulous; hopefully the CW will come to their senses. In the meantime, good luck for whatever's next.
By Bianca @ 16 Jun 2007 11:11 pm

But, but I don't want you to be the Kristin Kreuk kinda gal!

You' re way more kickass than she is. And a better female role model at that. Ellen Rocks!

We support you, Ms. Samantha Ferris!

Add me to the list of those deeply disappointed and infuriated by this idiotic decision on the part of the CW. And I think you do yourself a great disservice comparing yourself unfavorably to other CW actresses. No, you are not Kristen Kreuk, thank goodness--you are a stunningly beautiful (not to mention scorchingly hot!), immensely talented and charismatic woman who can act rings around any little CW starlet on the screen. You have brought (and I'll hold out hope will continue to bring!) richness and depth to Supernatural with the character of Ellen that no pair of "young" "hot" CW-sanctioned actresses can possibly hope to match, let alone surpass. Here's hoping that the network recognizes the outrage this decision is generating, and corrects the mistake. In any event, I wish you the best of luck in any and all future endeavors you undertake, and hope very much to see you back as Ellen sometime in Season 3!
By Hillary @ 17 Jun 2007 05:41 am

In truth, I wasn't sad to Jo leave and the Roadhouse get blow n up, but your character is one I've warmed up to, and I would miss Ellen. There are more than enough 20-something clones out there who can't act and bore the pants off me, and Supernatural needs you, not them! So sorry to hear the sad news. But I will remain hopeful for a return!
By Jennifer @ 17 Jun 2007 09:36 am

I'm really glad I found this page because I'd been wanting to find a way to write to you and tell you how much I love Ellen as a character and how happy I was that they didn't kill her off at the end of Season 2. What the CW doesn't seem to realize is that there is a good part of the SPN fandom that's represented by older women, and that includes me. It was very refreshing to see a character like Ellen on the show, who's beautiful, strong and so very supportive of the boys. And I loved seeing her with Sam... *sighs* Anyway, don't give up, and we'll support you no matter what! Kristen Kreuk has nothing on you, believe me....
By Annie B. @ 17 Jun 2007 02:40 pm

I hope you get to return. But even if you don't, know that you created a kick-ass, fantastic character that a lot of us enjoyed the heck out of. I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy next season nearly as much as I had hoped.
By Duffy @ 17 Jun 2007 03:03 pm

Hellowee Samantha,
Im very sorry that your character Ellen is left hanging from the rafters. I believe its a wrong move on SN part, even though we dont see you in many of the storylines your character is a backbone for Dean and Sams characters. II also think its a bad move to bring in younger characters as the old viewers like myself wont really have anyone to relate to. I honestly was hoping that they would rebuild the roadhouse and bring Ellen, Jo and Bobby back into the fold.
I really hope that they come to their senses and realise you are very needed in SN3.
Warm blessings to you and best of luck for future roles.

Love and Sunshine

By Vix @ 17 Jun 2007 06:42 pm

Samantha, I can't begin to express to you how horrified I am to hear this. Not only because of the character of Ellen, but for you personally. You are a beautiful woman and the network is showing how low in class they are to even suggest otherwise. Your talents may be put to better use somewhere that you will be truly appreciated.
By itsabrandnewday @ 17 Jun 2007 08:03 pm

god!!! we are so upset about this new "regulars" they are going to make this show like a soap opera. I hate the idea. And I´ll be done with it if they do that. I hope you´ll come back. You have been great!!!! Good luck. ;-)
By cristina @ 17 Jun 2007 11:16 pm

That's too bad. I hope they do bring you back this season. I was looking forward to seeing more of ya now that the roadhouse wasn't tyin' ya down to one spot.
By Em @ 18 Jun 2007 07:46 am

The CW is slamming the nails in the coffin; all that's really left to do is dig the hole.

Please be busy with a great new project if they call. You are too good for them. Beauty AND acting talent, something KK is sorely lacking in.

As for me? Grey's is looking darn good on Thursday nights.
By allzugern @ 18 Jun 2007 08:18 am

Well, that just goes to show that the CW is extremely stupid. Being young and "beautiful" [you are a gorgeous woman!] is not a reason to be on a show. It's about talent. [And, I'm sorry to sound mean, but KK hasn't got anything on you]

Hopefully the show will wise up. [...and I really hope we don't have a repeated Jo incident. That was awkward.]
By Amanda @ 18 Jun 2007 09:07 am

Sorry you have been promised an early season role in SPN. As an older viewer it was nice to see the boys bounce off the older cast members.

IMO the CW is too focused on 'Hot, young' which is a pity for SPN. Which is really 'kickass' good with hot on the side.

Hope all goes well with your other options and you have space to fit the boys in!!! when SPN needs your contribution.
By Sonya @ 18 Jun 2007 03:07 pm

I swear, a bunch of dumb 14-year old boys run the CW. I look forward to seeing you come back after the 2 new young airheads fall flat on their faces.
By Amelia @ 19 Jun 2007 06:38 am

Dear Ms. Ferris,

I can't even express how disappointing this is. I loved your work on The 4400 and I really love your character on Supernatural. She FITS into the show's dynamic. Please don't denigrate yourself by saying you're not Kristin Kreuk - you are both prettier than she is and, nothing against Ms. Kreuk who has always seemed like a nice girl, but you can act circles around her. The recent casting decisions for Supernatural are clearly made by a network executive that has never watched the show, much less understands what the dynamics are that make it unique and enjoyable. You are a BIG part of that dynamic, and I really hope that they see this once this attempt at contriving unnecessary love drama fails (again).

Regardless, either way, I wish you continued and much-deserved success in your work. I cannot even imagine how frustrating this all must be for you. You just need your own damn show, that's all it is. Best wishes from Miami!
By Andrea @ 19 Jun 2007 08:39 am

I just read a letter from one of your fans over at TWoP to the CW:

"No, you are not Kristen Kreuk, thank goodness--you are a stunningly beautiful (not to mention scorchingly hot!), immensely talented and charismatic woman who can act rings around any little CW chickadee on the screen! The idea that Ms. Ferris is somehow less worthy of being onscreen than someone like Kristen-fucking-Kreuk is utterly loathsome, and just flat-out wrong."

You named drop and now have your fans are dragging that person into their letters to the network about your lost! An actress who has no control over your fate on the network.

You shouldn't had called anyone out like you did, that's unprofessional because now your fans are dragging that person down due to your bad outcome.
By TWoP out for blood @ 19 Jun 2007 01:55 pm

Lol so funny.. its your attitude Samantha of whining that is causing u to loose your jobs.. your deleting all the comments criticizing u but your keeping the ones bashing Kristin.. No wonder they kicked you out of 4400 and Supernatural.. Thank GOD!
By Stupid @ 19 Jun 2007 02:14 pm

U really are one sad person to be deleting comments on how u single out one female lead on the CW......I actually did like ur character in Supernatural, but after reading what u wrote and u deleting comments...I'm actually happy that u won't be on Supernatural anymore.... oh and by the way its KRISTIN KREUK
By Idiot @ 19 Jun 2007 02:23 pm

Keeping my fingers crossed for ya Sam. Then again maybe I should double cross my fingers for extra luck... It's always seemed to work for me, maybe it'll work for you too... I really, really hope to see more of you as Ellen in season 3 of SPN! Here's to you Sam, keeping my fingers crossed for you! Best of luck and I hope that we see more of you as Ellen next season!

Best of luck to ya,

Melissa
By Melissa @ 19 Jun 2007 04:47 pm

Why dont you stop hating on Kristin and act respectfully?
By whocares @ 19 Jun 2007 07:22 pm

That's too bad. I think Sam & Dean need to have team memebers to help them fight & Ellen is a strong team member. She is educated in the ways of the demons & can help the boys fill in the blanks that thier father can't fill in. She has knowledge & she's tough & I like her. I read the Sides for Bella & Ruby & I don't like them. They don't sound honest. In fact, they come across as trashy & decietful & if Dean & Sam are going to fight the fight for Good they need girls who are willing to fight for the same thing & not be trashy. Sam & Dean need a team of strong characters if they have a chance at getting Dean's life back and getting rid of yellow eyes & his minions. They can't do it alone & certainly not with shady characters backing them. I want Ellen & the gang back. Love your talent!
By brittney, Wa @ 19 Jun 2007 10:27 pm

You meant 'Kristin Kreuk', right? LOL. You two are both amazing actresses, and it's sad to see others here bashing her. I didn't realize this blog was meant to make KK a sacrificial lamb. Age is relative. And though there needs to be a proverbial balance between "younger" and "older" actresses, the fact that the CW is "giving you less air time" is saddening. But I highly doubt that Kristin Kreuk is taking your air time. There's no point in pinning her down, even if she is a very beautiful and talented actress who just so happens to be in her twenties.

I hope that everyone here can maintain a level of respect and refrain from the unnecessary bashing of other actresses.
By Liz @ 20 Jun 2007 08:27 am

Kristin Kreuk*
By Jess @ 20 Jun 2007 12:08 pm

I hope you get chance to be on Supernatural again, I really enjoyed watching you're scenes, you're acting is really amazing :)
But I don't think KRISTIN KREUK not (Krustin Kruk) has any fault in this.
By Daniela @ 20 Jun 2007 01:06 pm

so sad to read this. i love the show and i think you and alona were fabulous additions to season two. ellen is just the sort of strong female character supernatural needed. i hope we'll see more of you two!
